Blog Off - an invitation

Making the impenetrable accessible

The idea of the #BlogOff hashtag started when a friend and I where thinking of easy and creative ways to share our research.

Thesis manuscripts tend to be heavy, wordy, impenetrable documents, not ideal for sharing publicly.  Our idea was to share aspects of our research in short, sharp bursts, in blogs we could share and respond to. This would help other people catch glimpses of ideas that typically stay hidden from view.

The aim of a BlogOff is to share a blog on any research subject you choose. 500 words, or an intro to a chapter, or a thought provoking paragraph / section, the choice is yours.

A BlogBack is a answer to, additional thought, comment or critique. This doesn't have to be a blog necessarily, a few words in a tweet will do nicely.

You might just want share a blog you are really interested in and put your own questions or comments in a comments - use #BlogBack to get the conversation going.

This is a vague attempt at some rules:

1.         Tweet your blog under the hashtag #BlogOff

2.         BlogBacks can be short and pithy comments, or a blog in answer to any posted.

3.         Keep BlogBacks kind, considerate and critical. Judgements or criticisms are not in the spirit of the game.

4.         There is no right way or correct subject. The aim is to remove jargon and obscure terminology in order to make text as accessible as possible.

5.         Aim to gather readers by going beyond boundaries.  If more common terms can be used all the better.

6.         The final rule is there are no rules that can’t be swerved, and do break them if it helps you join in.

7.        No permission needed, join in!

Again this is in the spirit of learning and friendship. Initial thoughts were to poke fun at phrases some writers use as staples.

I use many words/phrases myself, and hold my hands up to that. As you can see there’s room for more. Please message me or make up your own grid.

Thank you, I look forward to reading your #BlogOffs #BlogBacks and #BlogBingo klaxons
